What do you want the overarching theme for your 2015 to be?

So, more than happiness I wish for a freedom from fear. From fear-based decision-making. Or from decisions based on the status quo. I don’t plan to go nuts and move to Ulanbaatar, but many of my life decisions were not based on any kind of passion or direction, but on what I thought I should do or was supposed to do, or, yes, what was safe. I am instead going to try to do what’s right for me even if it’s terrifying. (eek!) I’m going to ask the universe for it and hope that I make the right choices to get there.

Who do you want to spend more time with in 2015?

Old friends. I saw a few of my oldest friends, Carmen and Anton, for the first time in 15 years, and met their amazing children, and…felt a very different kind of home. I miss that kind of home. There’s a certain kind of comfort in being with people who have known you your whole adult life, and still love you. I want like to feel that way again, reconnect with people who are still here in my life, but distant. This may mean a trip to Singapore at the very least, Malaysia, perhaps, as well. Or London to see my sister…or both. I don’t know. Still figuring that part out.

Which personal quality do you want to develop or strengthen?

Caring what people who don’t matter to me think. I’m pretty far down that path already, but I need to not even let people who care about me bother me, even if they disapprove. As long as I am doing what is right for me, wearing what I want to, or creating what I want to, I want to make an effort to care less what they think. Because I don’t make poor choices (usually) and if I do, none of them have been irreversible. I need to make myself happy first and foremost and stop waiting for it to just happen.

What do you want your everyday life to be like?

Regular, disciplined, interesting.

Which habits do you want to change, cultivate or get rid of?

Extending the answer above, I want to make time for the interesting things through discipline, planning, and adhering to a schedule that allows for both healthy and spontaneous habits. Stage I is getting back in the saddle. Stage II is taking the reigns.

  • I need to start to plan meals again.
  • I need to exercise regularly, and let myself off the hook less.
  • I want to write more. (Next post could be about meal planning :P)
  • I want to start a drawing habit. Every day seems like SUCH a commitment; I always had trouble with just doing it for a full month, but it would be an amazing achievement, and a highly beneficial endeavor.

What do you want to achieve career-wise?

I want to either decisively put to rest a dream I’ve had and strive to find a new one, or work with more vigor toward my original dream. That starts with getting back in the saddle. I know what I need to do to get there – do the thing until you get acknowledged for how well you are doing the thing, or you find out you don’t actually love the thing.
